If you’ve felt slightly unhinged over the last month, welcome. Pull up a chair. Between weddings, graduations, school events, family trips, and trying to keep up with everyday life, there has been one thought quietly running in the background:
Whether you’re coordinating camps, planning vacations, managing work, hosting visitors, or simply trying to enjoy longer days, summer has a way of filling your calendar before it even begins.
While summer promises adventure and relaxation, it often starts with a lot of planning. Sometimes we get so busy organizing it that we forget to enjoy it.
Research consistently shows that even small amounts of regular physical activity can improve energy, mood, and overall health outcomes for women (source).
At PowerPlaySF, we work with women in every season of life, and one challenge remains consistent: maintaining healthy summer habits while juggling work, family, travel, and everything else life brings.
The answer isn’t becoming more productive.
It’s becoming more intentional.
Write down everything that’s occupying space in your mind. Trips, appointments, to-do lists, work deadlines, family commitments—everything.
Mental clutter feels much heavier when it’s invisible.
Before every weekend gets booked, ask yourself:
What do I want more of this summer?
Connection? Adventure? Movement? Rest?
Your answer can become the filter for the decisions that follow.
Summer schedules change. That’s normal.
Instead of trying to maintain a perfect routine, women should focus on two or three healthy summer habits to keep you grounded. A few consistent habits are often more effective than chasing an all-or-nothing routine.
Don’t wait for free time to magically appear.
Book the dinner. Plan the hike. Schedule the workout. Invite the friend.
The things that refill your cup deserve a place on your calendar, too.
One thing we see often at PowerPlaySF is women putting themselves last during busy seasons.
Summer doesn’t have to mean abandoning the healthy summer habits that help women stay active, energized, and healthy during a busy season.
At PowerPlaySF, we help women throughout San Francisco build sustainable fitness habits that work in every season. Through personal training, small group fitness, and strength training programs designed for real life, we help women create healthy habits that last far beyond summer.
Whether you’re spending summer exploring San Francisco, traveling with family, or balancing a busy work schedule, your health deserves a place on the calendar too.
It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.
It just has to be something.
