Kwanua’s Story: Strength in the Face of Breast Cancer

In 2004, my mom was diagnosed with late-stage breast cancer. Instead of giving up, she chose to fight back—transforming her health through nutrition, exercise, and education. Her determination inspired me and my sisters, showing us that resilience isn’t just about survival—it’s about thriving.

At the time, I was working in a high-pressure corporate job, burning out and breaking down. Watching my mom’s transformation pushed me to rethink my own health. I turned to Pilates and strength training—not just to heal my body, but to reclaim balance, confidence, and calm.

That journey didn’t just change me. It became the foundation for PowerPlaySF. PowerPlaySF exists because of my mom’s story.

Her fight against breast cancer planted the seed for a studio that empowers women at every stage of life—through workouts, through community, and through unwavering support.

Why This Fundraiser Matters To PowerPlaySF

At PowerPlaySF, we believe fitness is more than a workout. It’s a way to build strength, resilience, and hope—both in ourselves and for others. Every October, PowerPlaySF:

  • Moves for Breast Cancer Awareness — honoring survivors, fighters, and loved ones.
  • Empowers Women through Fitness — using workouts to fuel confidence, strength, and healing.
  • Supports The Pearl House in Ghana — giving young girls the chance to rise with education, mentorship, and care.

Breast cancer impacts millions of women around the world—including right here in our community.
